03.07.2018 13:29

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded Branco Weiss Fellow Lisa Genzel a Vidi grant worth 800 000 euros. Vidi aims at experienced researchers who have carried out research projects successfully for a number of years. The grant is meant to encourage curiosity-driven and innovative research. NWO selects scientists based on their qualifications, the innovative character and expected scientific impact of the proposed research, and the chance for the newly gained knowledge to become applicable. Vidi supports scientists so that they can develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group for as many as five years.

With her research, Dr. Lisa Genzel’s aims to shed more light into the fundamental processes occurring in our brains during sleep. In her studies she was able to show that sleep changes the behavioral expression of a memory, making it more resistant to interference, however, at the cost of being less vivid.
