Administration

Dr. Martine Vernooij and Sonja Isliker work for the Vice President Research at ETH Zurich. As members of the Office of Research they support – together with other group members – departments, institutes, and professorships at ETH Zurich on matters related to research funding and administration. They are responsible for the administration of The Branco Weiss Fellowship, including recruitment, applications, the selection process, contracts, the yearly symposium, and the administration of the fellows.

Dr. Martine Vernooij
Dr. Martine Vernooij studied geology at the University of Utrecht and did her PhD at ETH Zurich. From 2006-2015 she was a researcher in several Swiss research institutions, focusing broadly on materials analysis (from aerosols to historical paint). She was also involved in the curation of natural scientific exhibitions at ETH Zurich. Martine joined the Office of Research in 2016. She is deputy head of the Grants Office and program manager of The Branco Weiss Fellowship.

Sonja Isliker
Sonja Isliker first joined ETH Zurich in 2003. From 2009-2013 she worked as an administrative assistant in the private and public sector and also enjoyed a stay abroad. Since 2014, she is a member of the Office of Research, where she is mainly responsible for the administration of the Branco Weiss Fellowship and the departmental evaluations.

Sonja Isliker

Veronika Jakobi
Veronika Jakobi joined the ETH Zurich Grants Office in January 2024. Her main focus is the administration of the Branco Weiss Fellowship. Before starting at ETH, she has worked in administrative positions at large and small organizations in the non-governmental sector and in academia in Germany, France and the UK where she was supporting teams as well as senior management.
