Branco Weiss Fellow Tetyana Vasylyeva recently won a federal research grant (R01) from the NIH for her project titled “Social network disruption, stigma, and HIV transmission and care dynamics among forcibly displaced MSM in Ukraine”.

Disruption of social networks due to displacement, conflicts, economical migration or climate crises can have detrimental effects on the health and wellbeing of people at risk of and living with HIV. Dr. Vasylyeva’s project’s goal is to implement social network methods and phylogenetic analysis to evaluate the effect of social network disruption on MSM (men who have sex with men) stigma, substance use disorders, and HIV transmission and care dynamics among forcibly displaced MSM in Ukraine.

The grant runs over five years with a budget of between 556’000 and 659’000 US-Dollar per year.
