18.06.2025 11:05

I kredsløb om hjertet – which roughly translates to “circuiting the heart” – is the title of the first book by Branco Weiss Fellow Lisa A. Gottlieb. The book is a captivating journey into the complexities of the heart and cardiovascular research in general. On 192 pages, Dr. Gottlieb presents answers to questions about the body’s central organ and the kilometers of blood vessels attached to it, like: How is the heart constructed and how does the circulatory system work? Does the giraffe have high blood pressure? Is it healthy to run a marathon? Why do so many people get a blood clot on Mondays? Can you really die from laughing? (The surprising answer to the last questions: Yes, you can, but it’s difficult – but you can die from a sad heart.) In a favorable review, Danish health news portal Sundhedskultur, which belongs to the publishing company Sundhedspolitisk Tidsskrift, calls the book a “tightly composed, well-laid out and extremely readable review of the various cardiological diagnoses that can affect us during our lives or be genetically determined”.

I kredsløb om hjertet was published by Gyldendal, the oldest publishing company in Denmark, founded in 1770. At the moment, the book is available only in Danish. However, an English translation may follow.
