08.03.2017 14:24

Branco Weiss fellow Erica van de Waal has been awarded one of 42 new professorships by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Every year, the SNSF awards these professorships to outstanding young researchers. The money associated with a professorship – an average of 1.48 million Swiss francs over a four-year period – is meant to allow the recipients to conduct an independent project with their own team at a Swiss higher education institution.

Erica van de Waal will start her professorship in June at Department of Ecology and Evolution of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Her research focuses on understanding cultural evolution through studying social learning in primates. Since 2015, she is also director of the field site Inkawu Vervet Project in South Africa.
