Daniel Stadtmauer receives award and funding for innovative fertility research

Branco Weiss Fellow Daniel Stadtmauer has received a $50,000 award from Personal Genetics Education & Dialogue (PGED), a program administered by Harvard Medical School, to support a new research project entitled A Bio-Inspired Approach to Embryo Selection for Assisted Fertility. The project explores how insights from the remarkable reproductive biology of non-model mammals can inspire new approaches to human in vitro fertilization (IVF). The funding will help establish a pilot animal colony and supports research that also contributes to ongoing ethical and policy discussions surrounding polygenic embryo selection.

In addition, Daniel has been awarded the 2026 George C. Williams Prize by the International Society for Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health for his paper on the evolutionary physiology of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy across species. He will deliver the George C. Williams Prize Lecture at the society’s annual meeting in Kiel, Germany, at the end of July. Together, these recognitions highlight Daniel’s distinctive approach to reproductive biology, combining evolutionary insights with questions of direct relevance to medicine and society.
