Christian Haffner wins Carl Zeiss Award for Young Researchers

Branco Weiss Fellow Cristian Haffner has been awarded the Carl Zeiss Award for Young Researchers 2020 for his studies on the use of plasmonics for compact on-chip sensing and communications technologies. Haffner had published the results of the study in a paper called “Low-loss plasmon-assisted electro-optic modulator” in Nature magazine.

The Carl Zeiss Award for Young Researchers is presented by the Ernst Abbe Foundation in the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany since 2016 with a focus on up-and-coming talents. The award has been allocated prize money totaling €21,000 and will be shared equally among three winners, with each of them receiving €7,000.
